Perth Observatory – 'Night Under the Stars' Social Media Campaign
As part of a university industry collaboration project, we partnered with Perth Observatory to help promote their event, ‘Night Under the Stars’, celebrating the Total Lunar Eclipse on May 15th, 2022. The project aimed to boost engagement, increase event attendance, and expand the Observatory’s digital presence by creating visually engaging and informative content tailored for their Instagram and Facebook platforms.
My Role:
I was responsible for the design and copywriting of the Instagram post and stories, working closely with the Observatory and our team to align the content with their brand identity. This involved creating visually compelling graphics, writing engaging captions, and developing a five-part Instagram Story sequence to guide users through the event details and build anticipation.
Key Deliverables:
Instagram Post:
Featured a captivating image of a star-filled sky with a cozy camp setup, aimed at evoking a sense of wonder and immersion. The caption highlighted key event details, and the post included a dedicated hashtag to encourage user sharing and build organic reach.
Instagram Stories (5 Slides):
Slide 1 – Introduction to the event and its date (May 15th, 2022)
Slide 2 – Information about the Total Lunar Eclipse and its significance
Slide 3 – Details on how to register for the event
Slide 4 – Onsite experience and what attendees can expect
Slide 5 – Giveaway announcement for event participants, encouraging story shares and tagging
Impact:
The content helped Perth Observatory generate excitement around a celestial event while showcasing the organisation as a community hub for space exploration. The campaign used visually rich content and platform-specific storytelling to reach and resonate with astronomy enthusiasts, families, and local event-goers across Perth.
